A Long Winter

Synopsis

Following the acclaim of All of Us Strangers, Andrew Haigh adapts one of Colm Tóibín's most celebrated stories into an intimate, quietly profound and expansive drama of family, longing and resilience.1951. High in Colorado's Rocky Mountains, in the midst of a changing America, A Long Winter follows Mike (Fred Hechinger), a young man whose family's fragile bonds are tested as winter closes in. With his younger brother Tommy (Kit Connor) stationed away in the Korean War, Mike watches as his mother, Louise (Caitríona Balfe), grows increasingly disillusioned with the isolated and suffocating provincial life her husband, Lester (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), has created for their family. When Louise disappears into the snow-covered wilderness, Mike is left to face the void she leaves behind. As neighbours rally together against the unforgiving winter in search of Louise, Mike discovers that the path ahead stretches far beyond the mountains, leading him towards an unexpected reckoning. The arrival of Jimmy (D'Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai) quietly reshapes his world, opening the door to a new understanding of himself.A Long Winter promises a profound and richly theatrical experience that resonates far beyond the screen, inviting audiences to reflect on the people and places we call home.
